View Conference Presentation Description

The presentation describes “Golden Rules” (doing good things for users), segues to “Persuasive Design” (design to change user behavior through persuasion and social influence) and then dives into “Dark Patterns.” These “Dark Patterns” produce user experiences by using UX techniques designed precisely to trick or deceive users. Poor design is not intentionally deceptive, but dark UX design is.
Some examples of dark UX design include:

  • Interfaces that are easy to get in, but hard to get out of
  • Free trials or subscriptions that aren’t easy to cancel
  • Hidden costs that are added on at the end of a process
  • Trick questions that are used to sign up users for services they don’t want or don’t need

Find out what happens when good design and persuasive design go bad! Learn how to be a better UX designers by understanding your darker side.
